Panelshack.ie Frequently Asked Questions

How do I calculate how much wall panelling I need?

In a room if you measure each piece of skirting board on the different walls, then add those measurements to get the total, as a general rule you should add at least 10% to that to allow for wastage. In a hallway, measure the skirting in the hall and on the landing if required, then separately measure up along the string of the stairs. Keep the stair measurement separate as a different kit or panel height will be required for the stairway, the 10% wastage will apply to the stairs also.

Can I fit the panelling myself or do I need a carpenter?

If you can confidently fit skirting board or architrave then you will be capable of fitting our wall panelling products, if you are unsure or don't have the required tools then hire a carpenter, it's a straight forward process for a qualified carpenter.

Will electrical sockets need to be moved?

Depending on the layout of the room or panelling position some sockets may need to be moved to the to the centre of a raised panel or moved laterally so as to avoid a stile, in this case call in an electrician to reposition the sockets to the desired location.

What is the panelling made from?

All of our wall panelling products are made from moisture resistant mdf, this is suitable for bathrooms and kitchens where moisture is present in the air but it's not waterproof and so should not be in direct contact with water.

What finishes are available?

The panellling is unfinished as standard but priming and sanding is available at an additional cost. If you purchase the panelling unfinished then you or your decorator need to put on a coat of primer & sand. After priming, apply an undercoat & then light sanding, then apply a coat or two of finish paint. If you buy the product primed it saves the initial coat of primer and sanding.

How is the wall panelling fixed to the wall?

The wall panelling is fixed in place using fine nails or pins placed through the board and into the wall. As well as fixings, wall adhesive is placed on the back of each piece and each piece of mdf is glued to one another using pva glue.

Can I panel my bathroom with the sanitary ware in place?

In a bathroom or ensuite the sanitary ware should be removed firstly, the wall panelling fitted and then the sanitary ware fitted back into place. Panelshack's wall panelling is moisture resistant and suitable for bathrooms but its not waterproof and care should be taken around wash hand basins and baths that it's not in direct contact with water.
